It was now mid-February. To those who were clueless as to the state which I now found myself in, I was completing my sophomore year of college. My parents were so proud of me; the plans they had made for me while I was still in the womb were coming to fruition. After two more years of study, I would become a computer programmer and I would be floating on air in a stable field of work with a steady flow of income.
Unfortunately for my parents, there were a few things they never factored in while they were deciding on my career path. For one, they never counted on the fact that I had struggled significantly with math and science, and had failed to compensate for my distaste for all things mechanical. I never really liked school anyway and had I been given the option, I would’ve skipped college, but upon my parents insistence and a desire inside me not to disappoint them, I applied to Florida State, managed to get in and began taking liberal arts classes in addit

The Fairy Aptitude Yearly Exam, or F.A.Y.E, is taken every year by the first 100 fairies that sign up. Out of those 100, only twenty-five will find a golden pearl and pass the test. The other seventy-five are deemed failures and are free to re-take the test next year. A fairy is only allowed to take the test seventeen times between their third and twentieth year at the S.P.R.I.T.E Academy. If you fail all seventeen times, you are stripped of you powers or "black listed." Good luck!
I fluttered above the city, letting the air currents push me faster and faster toward my unknown destination. I didn't really know where I was going or when I'd get there, but I figured that maybe if I just stumbled around, I'd find my way eventually. I hugged the faux pearl tightly and continued to be pulled along by the breeze. It didn't take long for the metallic structures the humans built to be replaced by the dense foliage of a small forest of oaks, then back to a sa
